Graduates of the Department of Forest and Natural Environment Sciences can undertake scientific studies and contracts concerning: (a) the ecology, biology, conservation and management of forests, natural and urban ecosystems and landscapes, (b) the planning and construction of infrastructure in forested areas. More specifically, acquired scientific knowledge and skills will enable them to perform highly in the following:


• Administration, sustainable management, protection, utilization of forest and other ecosystems, game, zoological parks, wildlife refuges, rangelands, freshwater fishing and aquaculture, mountainous and semi-mountainous waters.
• Conservation and management of protected areas.
• Consulting on forest and environmental issues.
• Environmental education.
• Environmental impact assessment of plans, works and activities (e.g. strategic plans, roads, tourism development, wind parks, pipelines, airfields).
• Establishment and management of forest plantations.
• Establishment, operation and trading of forest and ornamental plant nurseries.
• Forest and natural environment related secondary and higher education, research institutes, government and local authorities.
• Forest industry.
• Forest soils and land improvement surveys and works.
• Land surveys, mapping, interpretation, remote sensing, GIS.
• Monitoring and assessment of plants, wildlife, their habitats, water quality, stand quality, ecosystem health.
• Nature-based tourism.
• People and nature interactions.
• Pest and invasive species determination and management.
• Planning and construction of forest infrastructure (e.g. roads, bridges, dams, buildings)
• Planning and management of natural and urban green spaces.
